Barbara Bush Wing at Maine Medical Center
  • If you are pumping at the hospital, make use of their private room. It is a great time to regroup, take a deep breath and maybe catch 40 winks!

  • If the conditions allow, work with your pediatrician and doctor's to allow for co-bedding. We feel very strongly that it worked wonders for our boys. The doctors may not be receptive at first, but keep pushing the issue if it is important to you.

  • Beg, steal and borrow to get the kids in the same room.

  • Although exhausted, I enjoyed staying overnight to help with (and learn) the feeding routine. I learned A LOT. Bring your own pillow though.

  • Husbands, bring your walking shoes, it's a LONG way to the cafeteria.

  • Eat all the free food you can get.

  • Now is when you want to start thinking about their feeding schedule... How you want it to be when you are home.

  • Make arrangements now to have a nurse come to the house to check on them. It's scarey coming home with babies that may have problems. It gave us piece of mind.

  • Start color coding. In terms of bottles, the babies will inevitably be on different types or even amounts of food. In terms of clothing, it's helpful for those coming to help you with the babies, to dress them differently so the helpers can tell the babies apart. Even though you may swear they don't look alike, it seems no one else can tell them apart!
